We have been asked many times if our dried fruits are organic because there is an increasing amount of people who like to buy organic online. Unfortunately we cannot certify that it is organic but there are a few pointers I can jot down for your consideration nevertheless. Cheeky maybe, but sometimes I like to say “better than organic.”
- We do not add anything to the fresh fruits during processing. Whilst you may occasionally see organic dried fruits available – please always check what they use during drying. Just because the fruits have been grown organically, the dried fruit version may have preservatives added.
- Is the organic food online offered Australian? Whilst Australian organic growers must adhere to strict guidelines, overseas growers do not always have the same regulatory agents that audit them. If they know Australian consumers like organic and are willing to pay more, sometimes the temptation is great. Be thorough in your checks of organic dried fruit you buy online from fruits not produced in Australia.
- The fruit that we source are from accredited growers. They may not be certified organic but we know many of these growers very well and they love their land and products and are excellent growers. They are frugal and wise with their spraying. Often the fruits that we get are rejected by supermarkets because of small blemishes on the skin and so the fruits do not need to be treated for there lengthy trips around the country, they come straight to us. We also have quality assurance certificates from our growers.
- Fruits such as mango, pineapple and banana also have their protective skin removed by us during processing so that any concern you may have of chemical residual is removed. Again, nothing is added onto the fruits during the drying process.
Whilst you may be searching for food that is organic and you wish to buy organic food online, certainly the above points may give you reasons to consider our dried fruits. We love our products and hope you may some day also!
