Sulphur Free Products
- We do not use sulphur in the facility at all, so ALL of our products are completely sulphur free.
- We preserve our locally grown produce using unique, innovative drying methods. As a result, we don’t need to add preservatives, colouring or additives to our healthy, natural dried fruits.
- Sulphur is used in other drying operations for two different reasons when drying fruit; one to sterilise the fruit and kill bacteria to make sure that it is safe to eat and two to stop browning of the fruits as it dries.
- We ensure that fruit is cut and dried quickly so that the fruit does not have time to oxidise and turn brown. Once the moisture has been removed, the fruit is stored and sealed in perfect cold, dark conditions.
- We ensure that our facility is HACCP certified to make sure everything is clean and food safe and to ensure the fruit we dry is 100% safe to eat.
- Everyone that operates in the facility is trained to make sure that we turn out 100% quality products without having to use sulphur or sulphites at all.
Where Can Sulphur be Found
Sulphur is used in the processing of foods to preserve, retain colour and sterilise.
Australian food standards allow 3000 parts per million of sulphur in dried fruits, which is three times the level that the World Health Organisation recommend as their maximum levels. It is extremely common to have sulphur levels this high in dried fruits commonly displayed in Australia.
It is a requirement to disclose sulphur on food product for sale so it must be displayed if sulphur is in the dried fruits.
Why Sulphur is Detrimental if Consumed
There is a large enough portion of the population who are allergic to sulphur, sensitive to sulphur with allergies or suffer asthma sensitive issues that have made sulphur mandatory to display as an ingredient. Some are allergic or sensitive at the start and some develop the sensitivity afterwards.
